Our Perspective
The insurance industry is an industry built on fear… the fear of
dying, the fear of illness, the fear of your house burning down,
the fear a wrecking your car. But ask the average baby boomer what
his/her greatest fear is and they'll tell that you losing their
job is their greatest fear…driven by the reality that their personal
debt leaves them totally exposed... to financial disaster. Not being
able to pay their bills, losing their home, having to withdraw children
from college, having a car repossessed. It's right up there with
getting sick or getting injured and not being able to earn a living.
Yet there is disability insurance for those unfortunate souls. What
is there for those who lose their jobs for no fault of their own?
Not much. They sign a release, get a check and off they go all on
their own in a confusing cyber world of trying to market themselves
in medium that they know little about… all the while trying to stay
current with their bills.
Our Opinion
People often ask us how we feel about severance the way it is provided
today. Our answer is always the same. It's a broken, inefficient
practice. It doesn't really benefit displaced workers. It doesn't
benefit corporations or their shareholders. And it sure doesn't
benefit the lenders who have the exposures to all that personal
debt.
